Peachy Academy: My Application Journey – A Brief Overview

Hello loves~ Welcome back to Peachy Academy! In today’s post, I will be giving you an overview of my application experience. As some of you know, I am currently in graduate school to obtain my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. If you think it is a simple and straight forward process — let me state that this was possibly the most challenging experience to date. From the time of my application season(s), it was said that roughly 8% of applicants get accepted into physical therapy school. This is mainly due to the fact that there are an overwhelming amount of applicants and each program only accepts an average of 45 students per year.

As scary as that sounds, I am not trying to discourage potential applicants — I only want to share my experiences so that others don’t feel alone and to create a space for discussion and solidarity.

#042522: Grad School Update

hello loves! long time, no see!

it has been around seven months since my last post, and to be completely honest, i forgot that i had various social media platforms to manage. as many of you know, i started graduate school and am pursing my doctorate of physical therapy.

school in itself has been challenging, especially this previous trimester. therefore, i have not had much time to dedicate to myself, much less my hobbies. however, that is not what i want. what i experienced with my emotions and mental state was similar to my undergraduate career, and that is something that i did not want to go back to.

so, i will try my hardest to find a better balance this next trimester. for starters, i need to get back to journaling regularly but sometimes it is difficult to pick up a pen and write legibly when i don’t necessarily have to. so, maybe i will use my blog as a digital journal as well!

᠃ ⚘᠂ ⚘ ˚ ⚘ ᠂ ⚘ ᠃

anyways, life around school has been hectic. i decided to run for an officer position for one of the university’s organizations, and planning for events and managing things are apart of my responsibilities for the rest of the year. so far, we have had roughly three successful events. however, we are lacking in certain areas compared to our predecessors. so, i will be working harder to help fulfill those responsibilities.

this trimester was challenging as we, as a cohort, had to juggle our last term of general anatomy and musculoskeletal I: introduction to orthopedics. anatomy is demanding in itself, but to pair it with MSK was too much to handle. MSK is one of our first “real” courses where we have to apply different ways of thinking and utilize new terminology and skills. now that i have successfully completed the course, the material taught was not as challenging as i had originally thought. however, the course structure made it difficult to make improvements in terms of your grade percentages.

my program is also very specific with certain details that other program may not focus much on. regardless, a good majority of the class struggled together, and i found comradery in other classmates. so far, i have not heard of any bad news — which i am grateful for.

for the next two weeks, i will be off and recuperating for the next trimester. for the next term, i will be in two neurologic courses, MSK II, differential diagnosis, pharmacology, and a couple others. it will be a crammed term, similar to this previous one, but i am determined to be ahead and on top of my studies and asynchronous material. i am nervous for the intensity, but i am more prepared for it compared to the previous.

in the meantime, i hope to work on some of my hobbies and get back to doing things that i enjoy in my free-time!

for this next week, i will be preoccupied with work and visiting family members, but for the most part, i plan to be more active on M.A.N. and my other social media outlets. in regards to my blog, i plan to be more relaxed with it. for the longest time, i was concerned about the theme, the look, and the overall content that i was interested in writing in. when i first created this platform, it was based off my interests and what i wanted to talk about — without anything too specific.

surprisingly, it did really well (all things considered)! so, i wish to return to that mindset.

i hope you will join me in my little corner of the internet! until next time~

with love, Joslyn

study vlog ep.1 ✎ prepping for grad school

Hello loves! I know that posting on a Thursday is a little random, but I have been working on this vlog for quite some time now and was wanting too share it with you! Recently, I have been working on my Peachy Academy series where I go into detail about my educational experiences. Although this specific post is more for entertainment, I do mention and include some study aids that I liked using as an undergraduate student!

In this study vlog, I share with you some of the ways I have been prepping for physical therapy school. There are many things that are needed in order to prepare for graduate school, especially if you are like me and have been out of school for some time. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this post and let me know what you would like to see next!

Peachy Academy: My Academic Background

Photo by Patrick Tomasso on Unsplash

Hello loves and welcome back to Peachy Academy!

To start off this series, I thought it was fitting that I share my academic background with you. This series would not be comprehensive without disclosing this information. I believe that my perspective, advice, and potential mentorship can be better understood once you take a peek into my educational path.

As I mentioned in the introduction post, school has been a massive part of my life. However, I would not consider my academic journey as typical or average. For example, I have been privileged enough to attend private school for six years. Although I am aware that I had a lot leverage in my education, I want you to take everything with a grain of salt.

Remember that education, life, and success is not always linear.

Hello loves and welcome to a new series!

As the title implies, this is a school and study series. If you read my update post on 04-24-21, then you know that I was accepted into physical therapy school and will begin later this fall. Education has always been a big part of my upbringing, and I have tried to share my experiences via YouTube. However, it was far from adequate (it was actually quite terrible…).

So, in today’s post, I will be introducing Peachy Academy!

I understand that school and academics vary on one’s priority list. Nevertheless, I hope that we can become study pals. Whether you are learning for fun, part-time, full-time, or are just curious, I invite you to join me!

Although Texas is still uncooperative and going through a warm spell, it is never too early to prepare for winter. This season will take you by surprise, regardless of if you are new to the state, or if you were raised here. Winters are brutal, and more so here in Denton than anywhere else in the DFW area, as it can be roughly ten degrees colder… plus wind chill. Now is the time to invest in some winter pieces, before it is too late.

Here are five fashion hacks to endure this winter season without compromising your style:
